Buildings

Farms generate food for your population and your military. Farms are also the most expensive building in the game, but essential for your growth. To supplement food production, you could purchase food from the market. Farms consume 2.5 water per turn, so it's important to also have enough Water Wells to keep your farms running.

If your kingdom runs out of food, it will automatically spend 25% of your new income to purchase some. So it's important to have enough food or you miss out on 25% of your revenue.

Farms also cost 5 * (farms^2) lumber after level 15.
